GRT performs hydrogeological studies as an important component to many of our services. Our expertise has been applied to water supply and environmental services. Our hydrogeology projects include water wellhead protection, treated wastewater disposal design, environmental site investigation, remediation design, risk assessment, contaminant fate and transport modeling, and well field design. We employ progressive methods such as 3-D spatial and groundwater modeling to understand hydrostratigraphy, groundwater flow and contaminant transport.
Hydrogeological Investigations
Groundwater & Reactive Transport Modeling
Global Remediation Technologies, Inc (GRT) utilizes state-of-the-art groundwater and reactive transport modeling software to assist in hydrogeological studies, groundwater supply, contaminant fate and transport, monitored natural attenuation, and remedial system designs.
Examples
Reactive Transport Modeling
A reactive transport model was created to assess the fate and transport of 1,2,4- Trimethyl-benzene at a particular site. The model was created in RT3D through modifying the BTEX degradation with multiple electron acceptors package. Assuming future remedial activities removed the contaminant from the leading edge of the plume, the model was used to determine if biological processes would effectively mitigate the subsequent plume expansion toward the "clean zone."
Groundwater Modeling
GRT created a detailed groundwater model using MODFLOW-2000 to assist in the understanding of several issues at a particular site including: effectiveness of a pre-existing purge well, interference of a nearby irrigation well, potential effects of a proposed dewatering project on the dissolved plume, groundwater/ surface-water interaction, and transport of dissolved species in groundwater. The results of the model have been integral in directing the project and have also saved the client money through negation of potential receptors.
